Antique Japanese Cloisonné Vase, Meiji Period Circa 1880 — Celadon Ground with Phoenix Medallion

A fine Japanese cloisonné enamel vase from the Meiji period, circa 1880. The tapering baluster body is worked in a soft celadon ground, centered by a large lobed medallion enclosing a pair of hō-ō (phoenix) birds in flight amid stylized clouds, rendered in gold, ivory, and powder blue against a rich oxblood red. A smaller matching roundel appears below. The shoulder and short flared neck are enameled in a deep blue-black ground with a fine gilt and white floral scrollwork (karakusa), bordered in coral-red wirework. The vase stands on a small foot ring decorated with a matching floral band, with copper rim and footrim consistent with Japanese wired cloisonné (yūsen shippō) production of the period.

Measures 9.5" tall, 4" at the widest point. Good antique condition; wear consistent with age. No Chips , cracks or repairs.
