Antique Japanese Cloisonné Vase, Meiji Period Circa 1880 — Midnight Blue Ground with Lappet Panels

A fine Japanese cloisonné enamel vase from the Meiji period, circa 1880. The baluster body rises from a lappet-bordered foot to a shoulder decorated with alternating red roundels and shaped medallions enclosing floral crests on a blue ground, divided by a scalloped geometric band in tan, brown, and turquoise. Below, tasseled lappet panels in cream wirework frame a scene worked in blue-green and brown against the rich midnight-blue ground, characteristic of the finest Meiji-period wired cloisonné (yūsen shippō). The waisted neck is enameled in a deep black-blue ground with a fine gilt-brown arabesque, bordered by a zigzag geometric band at the rim. Copper rim and footrim.

Measures 7" tall, 3.5" at the widest point. Good antique condition; wear consistent with age. No chips, cracks or repairs.
