This matched pair of cabinet plates was produced at Doulton's Burslem factory during the late Victorian period, bearing the pre-Royal Doulton Burslem England backstamp dating them to before 1902. Each plate measures 6.5 inches in diameter with a scalloped gilt rim and presents a different botanical subject — one decorated with passion flower or clematis blooms, the other with chrysanthemum — a pairing typical of Doulton's dessert and cabinet sets of this period, where complementary subjects from the same decorating series were produced as coordinated groupings.

Both plates share the characteristic mottled buff and white ground of Doulton's Burslem art pottery production, with the cobalt blue botanical subjects painted in the confident, naturalistic manner of the factory's decorating department at the height of its Victorian output. The scalloped rims carry fine gilt edging consistent throughout the pair, and the ribbed border panels visible on the reverse are a subtle moulded detail characteristic of this plate form.

Both plates are in mint condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration, and the gilt rims remain bright and fully intact on both examples.
