Product Description
This monumental Limoges porcelain vase dates to 1893 and is signed by the artist "Frost" to the base alongside the Limoges France factory mark. At 18 inches tall, it is an exhibition-quality piece — the kind produced by the great Limoges factories in the late 19th century for display, gifting, or the luxury decorator market.
The hand-painted central panel depicts a classical figural scene of a woman in flowing robes accompanied by a cherub, rendered with the fine detail and soft atmospheric quality characteristic of the best Limoges painters of the period. Cascading purple wisteria decorates the elongated neck, the twin handles are finished in rich gilding, and gold banding accents the neck, shoulder and foot. The overall palette moves from soft pastel blues and pinks through to the warm ivory and blush of the pedestal base — a beautifully composed and balanced piece.
Limoges porcelain of this period and scale, artist-signed and dated, is increasingly sought after by collectors of 19th century decorative arts. The combination of the Frost signature, the 1893 date, and the scale and quality of the painting makes this an exceptional find.
The vase is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration.
