Royal Doulton Figurine Abdulla HN1410

Abdulla (HN1410) was designed by Leslie Harradine and produced from 1930 to 1937, standing 5.75 inches tall. The figure belongs to Royal Doulton's tradition of Middle Eastern character studies — a richly costumed seated man rendered with the characterful modelling and vivid multicolour palette that defined Harradine's work during this most celebrated period of Doulton figure production. 

The seven-year production window places this squarely in the pre-war Harradine era, and the Middle Eastern subject matter connects it to a broader strain of Orientalist decorative taste that ran through interiors of the period. Harradine brought the same attention to costume detail and physical character to these figures that he applied to his English street sellers and pretty ladies — the seated pose, the robes, the expression all handled with the confidence of a modeller at the height of his powers.
