Royal Doulton The Carpet Seller HN2776 Flambe was modelled by William K. Harper and issued in 1990 as part of Royal Doulton's prestige Flambe range — one of the most technically demanding and visually arresting lines the company ever produced. Harper was among the studio's most accomplished modellers of Middle Eastern and exotic character subjects, and the Carpet Seller gave him a subject perfectly suited to his strengths: a seated merchant of the bazaar, his wares spread before him, rendered with the close observation and narrative richness that distinguish the finest character figurines in the HN series.

Standing 9 inches tall, the Carpet Seller is presented cross-legged with a richly patterned carpet displayed across his lap — a composition that rewards examination from every angle. The Flambe glaze envelops the piece in the deep, burning crimson with bold black accents that Royal Doulton's craftsmen have mastered since Charles Noke and Bernard Moore first unlocked the copper oxide reduction firing process in 1904.
