Esmeralda HN2168, Royal Doulton Figurine
Esmeralda (HN2168) was designed by Peggy Davies and issued by Royal Doulton from 1956 to 1959, standing 5.5 inches tall. The figure presents a young woman in a light pastel dress with a rich red wrap draped over her shoulders and arms, the contrast of colours characteristic of Davies at her most elegant. A small bird accompanies the figure, adding a delicate naturalistic touch that lifts the composition beyond a simple lady study into something with genuine charm and intimacy.
Peggy Davies remains one of the most beloved designers in the entire HN canon — her figures are distinguished by exceptional grace of line, a refined colour sense, and a warmth in the faces that her contemporaries rarely matched. Esmeralda is a fine example of her earlier work, compact in scale but fully realised in detail, with the quality of hand-painting that made Davies figures collector favourites from the moment they were introduced.
The production run closed in 1959 after just three years, making Esmeralda among the shorter-lived Davies figures and correspondingly scarce in today's market. Fine examples surface infrequently. Fully insured shipping across Canada with tracking.
