Royal Doulton Figurine Father Christmas HN3399
Father Christmas (HN3399) was designed by Robert Tabbenor and issued by Royal Doulton from 1992 to 1999, standing 9 inches tall. Modelled in the classic English Father Christmas tradition — rich red robes, white trim, bag of toys in hand and his list at the ready — this is one of the most fully realised and generously scaled Christmas figures Royal Doulton produced, and it has become a perennial favourite among collectors who build seasonal displays around quality bone china pieces.
Tabbenor captures Father Christmas at his most archetypal: unhurried, purposeful, entirely at ease with the magnitude of the task ahead of him. The figure has a warmth and solidity that distinguishes it from the more decorative Christmas pieces in the HN range — this is a character study as much as a seasonal ornament, and it holds its presence whether displayed at Christmas or kept on a collector's shelf year-round.
The seven-year production window closed in 1999, and Father Christmas HN3399 has not been reissued. Pieces in clean condition are increasingly sought after, particularly in North America where seasonal Royal Doulton figures have a strong and consistent collector following.
