Royal Doulton Figurine HM Queen Elizabeth II HN2878
HM Queen Elizabeth II (HN2878) was designed by Eric J. Griffiths and issued by Royal Doulton in 1983 to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 2nd June 1953. Standing 10.25 inches tall in fine bone china, the figure is limited to an edition of just 2,500 worldwide — each piece individually numbered — and represents one of Royal Doulton's most significant commemorative sculptures of the twentieth century.
Griffiths, who served as Director of Sculpture at Royal Doulton, rendered the Queen in full Coronation regalia: the hand-painted detail of the gown, robes, and insignia executed with the exacting standard that distinguished his major royal commissions. The piece carries the weight of occasion without sacrificing the warmth of craftsmanship — a balance that is considerably harder to achieve than it looks, and one that has made this figure a cornerstone of serious royal commemorative collections.
With the passing of Her Majesty in 2022, interest in royal Doulton commemoratives has intensified markedly among collectors worldwide. HN2878 is among the most historically significant pieces in the royal series — a first-edition limited sculpture from a defining anniversary year, in an edition that was modest even at the time of issue.
