Royal Doulton Figurine Hucklebery Finn HN2927 & Tom Sawyer HN2926
Huckleberry Finn (HN2927) and Tom Sawyer (HN2926) were designed by David Lyttleton and issued by Royal Doulton from 1982 to 1985, each standing approximately 5.25 inches tall. Both figures belong to the Characters from Children's Literature series — one of Royal Doulton's most warmly regarded literary collections, bringing to bone china the classic figures of English and American storytelling. Lyttleton, who also created Royal Doulton's celebrated Middle Earth series, brought the same narrative instinct to these two figures: Huck in his rough-and-ready outfit, barefoot and unhurried, Twain's great American original made tangible; Tom a study in barely contained mischief and imagination.
The two figures were conceived as companions, drawn from Mark Twain's immortal Mississippi novels — The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884). Together on a shelf they tell a story in miniature, the easy companionship of two boys who have become among the most enduring characters in world literature. The hand-painting on each captures the lived-in, sun-warmed quality of Twain's world with real affection.
Production of both figures closed in 1985 after just three years, and neither has been reissued. Finding them together in matching clean condition is increasingly uncommon. Fully insured shipping across Canada with tracking.
