Royal Doulton Figurine Promanade HN3072
Promenade (HN3072) was designed by Adrian Hughes and issued in 1986 as part of Royal Doulton's Reflections Collection, standing an impressive 13.25 inches tall. The Reflections series was Hughes's most sustained and ambitious body of work for Doulton — large-scale, stylised figures with an Art Deco sensibility that set them apart from the traditional HN ladies range and attracted a distinct collecting audience drawn to their bold scale and graphic elegance.
Promenade presents a lady in a day dress and wide-brimmed hat taking her Afghan Hound for a walk — a subject that combines the period leisure culture of the Deco era with the particular grace of one of the most visually dramatic dog breeds. The Afghan's flowing coat and aristocratic bearing make it a natural companion for the Reflections aesthetic, and Hughes handled the pairing with the compositional confidence that characterised his best work. The tall format — over thirteen inches — gives the piece real presence, and the figure reads well from a distance in a way that smaller HN pieces cannot.
Promenade pairs naturally with its companion Strolling HN3073, in which a similar lady walks a greyhound, and collectors of the Reflections series frequently pursue both. The combination of figurine-collecting and dog-breed appeal gives Promenade broader cross-market reach than most pieces in the range.
