Sweet Anne M5, Royal Doulton Figurine
Sweet Anne (M5) was designed by Leslie Harradine and issued from 1932 to 1945, standing 4 inches tall — the miniature M Series version of one of the most celebrated and enduringly popular lady figures in the entire HN range. The full-size Sweet Anne was produced from 1929 onward in seven colourways and remained in continuous production for nearly four decades, testimony to the model's exceptional appeal. M5 brings that same graceful lady to miniature scale in a distinctive lustre palette of lavender, green and pink.
The M Series was introduced in 1932 when Royal Doulton began systematically issuing miniature versions of its most beloved full-size ladies in fine bone china, painted to the same standard as the originals at a scale that demanded exceptional skill from the decorating team. Harradine's Sweet Anne translates particularly well to the smaller format — a lady in bonnet and flounced skirts making a curtsy, the pose reading clearly at 4 inches as it does at 7.25. The lustre finish of M5 gives the piece a soft luminosity distinct from the bolder colourways of the full-size versions.
The 1932–1945 production window is entirely pre-war and wartime, placing M5 among the most historically grounded pieces in the M Series. Finding a miniature Harradine lady from this period in undamaged condition is never straightforward given the scale and age, and Sweet Anne M5 draws consistent interest from M Series collectors and Harradine enthusiasts alike.
