Royal Doulton Figurine Uriah Heep HN2101

Sale price$99.95 CAD Regular price$125.00 CAD

Uriah Heep (HN2101) was designed by Leslie Harradine and issued from 1952 to 1967, standing 7.5 inches tall. He belongs to Royal Doulton's Dickens Series Three — the group that includes Mr. Micawber HN2097, Mr. Pickwick HN2099, Fat Boy HN2096, and Sairey Gamp HN2100, and which represents the most fully realised chapter of Doulton's long engagement with the characters of Charles Dickens.

Uriah Heep comes from David Copperfield (1850), where he serves as the novel's primary villain — a clerk who constructs an elaborate performance of humility and self-abasement while scheming systematically against everyone around him. His name has passed so thoroughly into the English language that "Uriah Heep" is now a synonym for a particular kind of snivelling, ingratiating villainy, and Dickens himself regarded the character as one of his finest creations. Harradine rendered him as readers have always imagined him: the stooped posture, the wringing hands, the whole attitude of false deference that masks everything he actually is.

Heep is among the most recognisable figures in the English literary canon, and the cross-market appeal of HN2101 reflects that. Dickens collectors, Royal Doulton Dickens series collectors, and general literary collectors all find him compelling — and he pairs naturally with the other Series Three companions in a display that tells the story of Victorian fiction through Doulton's best character modelling.
