Royal Doulton Flambé Silver Overlay Whisky Jug

This antique Royal Doulton Flambé jug stands 8.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide, with the pottery's signature deep oxblood glaze beneath an elaborate sterling silver overlay in a scrolling foliate and thistle design, and a matching silver cap on the stopper. The form — spouted neck, loop handle, and stopper — is typical of the whisky and liquor jugs Doulton produced for the retail trade in the early 20th century, with the silver work added by a silversmith over the fired flambé body. The base carries the Royal Doulton Flambé backstamp.

The combination of Doulton's flambé glaze with hand-applied silver overlay is scarcer than plain flambé ware, and the thistle detailing suggests this piece was made with the Scottish whisky market in mind.

Condition: Excellent — no chips, cracks, or repairs. Some light surface scratches to the flambé glaze, visible in photos.
