Product Description
This Royal Doulton Sung flambé lidded box dates to 1947 and is signed Noke to the base — a direct link to Charles Noke, the designer and art director who developed the Sung glaze line at Doulton in the 1920s. Sung ware is a refined variant within the flambé family, prized for its deep, classic ox-blood coloring and smoother colour transitions compared to the more heavily streaked standard flambé glazes.
The domed lid sits cleanly over a rounded, footed body, with rich red tones shifting into blues and blacks across the surface. No two Sung or flambé pieces ever fire identically, and the Noke signature adds both historical interest and collector value to this particular example.
The piece is in mint condition, with no chips, cracks, or restoration. The lid fits cleanly and the glaze is undamaged throughout, with the Noke signature and Doulton backstamp clearly legible on the base.
