Product Description
This Royal Doulton stoneware commemorative mug dates to circa 1905, produced to mark the centenary of Admiral Lord Nelson's death at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805. The relief-moulded decoration features a portrait medallion of Nelson on one side and a scene of sailing ships in battle on the other, set against a cobalt blue ground with sage green relief panels. The rope-twist handle is a deliberate naval reference, and the full inscription encircling the base reads "England Expects Every Man Will Do His Duty" — Nelson's famous signal to the fleet before the battle.
Doulton produced a range of Nelson commemorative wares around the 1905 centenary, and pieces of this quality and condition are increasingly difficult to find. The moulding is crisp, the glaze colours strong, and the piece retains all of its original character as an early 20th century commemorative stoneware.
The mug is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, or restoration throughout.
