Royal Doulton Loving Cup D’ye Ken John Peel Limited Edition 309/500

Sale price$650.00 CAD

A Royal Doulton loving cup celebrating John Peel, the Cumberland huntsman made famous by the old hunting song D’ye Ken John Peel. Issued in 1933 in a limited edition of only 500, this is number 309.

The body is modelled in low relief with Peel in his red hunting coat and top hat, gathered with his fellow huntsmen. His hounds are on the reverse, set in a pastoral landscape under a canopy of autumn foliage. The handles are formed as hunting whips, each topped with a fox’s head peering over the rim. Everything is hand-painted in rich underglaze colours.

It’s one of the celebrated limited edition loving cups Royal Doulton introduced in the 1930s under art director Charles Noke. These are among the most sought-after Doulton pieces of the period.

Height 9". No chips, cracks or repairs.
