The Standing Beefeater was designed by Leslie Harradine and produced by Royal Doulton circa 1924 to 1938. Standing 7.75 inches tall, this rare advertising figurine depicts a Beefeater (warder of the Tower of London) in classic ceremonial dress, holding a facsimile of the first edition of The Illustrated London News from May 14, 1842. Notably, this piece carries no HN number as it was commissioned specifically for advertising purposes rather than as part of the standard figurine collection.

The Illustrated London News was the world's first illustrated newspaper, and this figure served as a promotional piece for the publication. The newspaper held by the Beefeater features readable text in original examples, making this a particularly unique advertising collectible.
